About
Empowering Communities Through Fungi, Food, and Science
Our Story
The Mushroom Conservatory began with a simple idea: to make mushroom cultivation accessible to everyone. Founded by Erin Hamilton, a passionate mycologist and educator, the business launched in 2021 with a mission to reconnect people with the remarkable world of fungi.
What started as a way to share the joy and wonder of growing mushrooms at home has grown into something much larger - a movement toward understanding fungi as teachers, healers, and allies in restoring our planet.
For the past five years, we've taught thousands of people worldwide how to grow their own mushrooms through hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, and online courses. We've placed our kits in over 400 retail stores and partnered with universities and cultural institutions to bring mycology into classrooms and communities.
In December 2025, we're opening our first brick-and-mortar location in Howell, Michigan - a full - service shop where you can explore mushroom growing supplies, sample fresh preparations, attend workshops, and connect with our community in person.
Our Mission
We exist to:
Teach real mushroom cultivation. Our kits go far deeper than typical "set it and forget it" mushroom blocks. We believe people deserve to understand how fungi actually grow, and we design every kit to build genuine mycological knowledge and confidence.
Create exceptional mushroom products. We develop the most effective mushroom tinctures and extracts possible, designed to support wellness and connect people to the remarkable benefits of fungi.
End world hunger with mushrooms. Fungi are among the most nutrient - dense, sustainable foods on our planet. We're committed to making mushroom cultivation a practical, accessible tool for food security and nutrition.
Restore our planet's ecosystem. Through mycoremediation research, citizen science initiatives, and environmental advocacy, we work to harness fungi's extraordinary power
